Curtis Lofton Gives Middle Finger to Atlanta Fans

The new public enemy #1

This weekend former Atlanta Falcons player Curtis Lofton made the decision to sign with the rival New Orleans Saints. The Falcons had made up their mind that Curtis wasn’t part of their future plans when they opted to sign former pro bowler Lofa Tatupu.

Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times Picayune has an article up on Lofton and there is a very interesting quote from Lofton…

“I wanted to go to a team that, No. 1, had a chance to win a Super Bowl, HAD TRUE FANS, a great defensive coordinator. Then once the Saints called, I was like, ‘Wow,'” Lofton said. “When I took my visit there, I loved it. I knew I was going there. I didn’t need to visit anywhere else. I told my agent that.”

The Falcons fired the first shot when they made the decision to go a different direction from Curtis Lofton at the middle linebacker position. Lofton has now fired back at the fans that have supported him and many that were bewildered and angry to see him go. I would wish the best of luck to Mr Lofton but he just gave me and you a big F-YOU as he left town.

UPDATE: D Orlando Ledbetter posted a Q&A that he did with Curtis Lofton this evening. In that Q&A Lofton back-tracked on his previous harsh words that he had for the Atlanta fans (guess he was sick of getting bombed on Twitter).

Here is what he had to say:

Yeah, I did an interview with someone from New Orleans and they said what do you look forward to? I said I look forward to playing on a team that has a chance to win a Super Bowl and that has truly great fans. I guess all of the Atlanta fans took it as me taking a dig at them. It’s been crazy. You can see all of the crap on my twitter timeline. But, hey, that’s part of the game I guess.

You can read the entire Q&A here.
