Falcons News and Links for August 1st

The Falcons will take to the field on Friday for their annual Friday Night Lights event. Next Thursday will be the first pre-season game. We've quickly gone from sitting around and dreaming about football to seeing what this team can deliver in 2013. Let's take a look around the internet and see what people are saying about the Falcons…

Julio Jones and Roddy White star in Stealing The Torch

Chase Stuart over at Football Perspective talks a little fantasy football as well as older receivers passing the torch to younger receivers. Julio and Roddy were in rarified air with their performances last season. In case you forgot just how good Roddy White is, Stuart reminds us that White has had at least 80 receptions, 1100 yards and 6 TDs in each of the last six seasons.

Julio Jones, Osi Umenyiora creating stir in Atlanta

Apparently Julio Jones is getting better at route running, he's improved his body control, he's eating better and Mike Smith says he's stronger "at the ball" this year. Defensive backs be afraid, be very afraid.

We all know that Kroy Biermann will play a little situational linebacker this year. But what about Osi? Apparently Mike Nolan is "experimenting" during practice. Osi will still mostly be a pass rusher but Nolan likes to try and disorient QBs so look for Osi to potentially be in different positions in different situations.

Dispatches from Falcons Training Camp

Jeanna, from The Falcoholic, makes some interesting observations about the Falcons and the Packers. It just so happens that she did some recon up in the land of Chedda and what she witnessed was a team that seemed "complacent" and lacked the "sense of urgency" when compared to this Atlanta team. We've all heard that this year is "Super Bowl or bust" so it will be interesting to see how the Falcons sense of urgency plays out this season.
