The Falcons are facing a lot of decisions this off-season and that starts with their unrestricted free agents. We will go through them one by one and decide whether or not the Falcons should re-sign them. A lot of times it's not as easy as it looks as some decisions have more than just roster spot implications. We also have to think about the salary cap as it is expected to increase by around $1 million this season.
Chris Owens is one of the more polarizing players for the Atlanta Falcons. Despite having his best year in an Atlanta Falcons uniform, Owens is still disliked by the majority of Falcons fans due to his dismal performance in the 2010 NFC Divisional Round against the Green Bay Packers. However, I'm not ready to give up on Owens as he played his best football this year in red and black while battling through injuries.
According to Pro Football Focus, Owens did not have a single grade in the red during the 2012 season and also recorded 3 grades in the green including a +2.1 grade against New Orleans in week 13 and followed that up with a +1.8 grade against Carolina before going down with injuries.
Verdict: We should resign Owens. He should come on the cheap end and when he saw his snaps increase late in they year he played very well against two of the top offenses in the NFL before getting injured. Owens is a younger corner and provides quality depth for the Falcons.
