Falcons Free Agent Decision: William Moore

The Falcons are facing a lot of decisions this off-season and that starts with their unrestricted free agents. We will go through them one by one and decide whether or not the Falcons should re-sign them. A lot of times it's not as easy as it looks as some decisions have more than just roster spot implications. We also have to think about the salary cap as it is expected to increase by around $1 million this season.

William Moore, aka the “Mizzou Hammer” is expected to test the free agent market in the upcoming weeks. Atlanta was widely reported to franchise tag him due to the cheap value the safety franchise tag has. Unfortunately, it would appear Atlanta is going to let him test his value in free agency.

Now what does that mean for Falcon fans? William Moore is arguably the best young safety on the market this off-season and his agent believes he could command a hefty chunk of change to obtain his services. Moore has played for three seasons in Atlanta combining over 11 interceptions, 5 forced fumbles, and 159 tackles.

He has tremendous upside, but his stint in Atlanta was plagued by injuries. This is the driving force behind Atlanta skipping the franchise tag. He rates in the top 20 for his position, according to ESPN. Therefore, it is likely William Moore has played his last game for the Falcons. I believe Atlanta should have tagged him, but I also understand that the free agent class has a good number of safeties hitting the market.

Moore peaked this year; he earned the right to get paid. The question is will Atlanta be the one to pay him? Some rumors have circulated that Atlanta already has a deal on the table for Moore, I seriously doubt those. Thomas Dimitroff & Co. will allow Moore to test the market, and if Atlanta can offer his value, he will come back.

Verdict: Test Market

My opinion: Doubtful he stays a Falcon
